Abstract

This study determined the comparison of self-management measures in terms of its effectiveness in alleviating the physical manifestations brought by prolonged use of gadgets. The alleviation effect was observed based on the perception of the Grade 11 students under three parameters: (1) Promotion of Physical Activity, (2) Adequacy of Physiological Needs, and (3) Self-Diversion Interventions. The following

measures were utilized to determine what is the most effective self- management measure in dealing with the physical manifestations

experienced. Due to prolonged use of gadgets, the results revealed that the respondents experienced vision and musculoskeletal problems. The most notable physical manifestations are backache, headache, and eye strain with a percentage value of (86.10%), (85.6%), and (76.1%), respectively. Furthermore, the three self-management measures involved have a mean value of 3.55 for promotion of physical activity, 3.72 for adequacy of physiologic needs, and a 2.97 for self-diversion intervention obtained, respectively. With these following results, these measures have aided effectively in alleviating the said symptoms, assisting them to continue their daily scholastic tasks and to prevent further development of other infirmities. Furthermore, it was also revealed that the most effective of them all is more of having an adequate physiological need as an intervention when relieving the physical manifestations due to prolonged use of gadgets.
