Abstract
Healthcare professionals are essential members of society who render the care needed by patients to obtain optimum health. However, with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an increasing number of healthcare workers expressing job dissatisfaction and shifting careers. This study aimed to compare the factors affecting the decision to shift careers of Filipino healthcare professionals before the COVID-19 pandemic and during the COVID-19 pandemic. A questionnaire was given to 50 respondents to collect data on their workload, salary, management, and work environment as former healthcare professionals. An independent t-test was conducted to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that there is dissatisfaction with the working conditions of former healthcare professionals. The career shift factors before the pandemic and during the pandemic had p-values greater than 0.05. This study concluded that there is no significant difference between the workload, salary, management, and work environment before the pandemic and during the pandemic. Therefore, this indicates that job dissatisfaction of healthcare professionals was present before the COVID-19 pandemic and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
