Abstract

This study used a descriptive correlational research design. The demographic variables included are educational attainment and family history of pneumonia. This study utilized systematic random sampling techniques to get the total of 119 respondents. It also used a validated self-made questionnaire which consists of 10 items for each knowledge and preventive practice category. The statistical treatments of data include the mean, percentage, standard deviation, t-test for independent mean, ANOVA and Pearson product moment correlation. Based on the gathered data, this study revealed the following: 1) majority of the respondents are high school graduate, have monthly family income of less than Php 40,000, and have no family history of pneumonia; 2) majority of the respondents have a good knowledge about basic information of community-acquired pneumonia; 3) majority of the respondents have high level of preventive practices against community-acquired pneumonia; 4) there are no significant differences on the respondent’s knowledge when grouped according to educational attainment and family history of pneumonia; 5) there are no significant differences on the respondents’ preventive practices in community-acquired pneumonia in terms of educational attainment and family history of pneumonia; 6) there is no significant correlation between the respondents’ knowledge and preventive practices on community-acquired pneumonia.
