Abstract

Age, educational attainment, employment status, family history of breast cancer, civil status, and monthly family income were the demographic variables used in the study utilizing descriptive research design. Using purposive sampling technique, respondent were 429 women of Barangay Burol III, City of Dasmarinas, Cavite whose ages are 13 years old and above. A self-made questionnaire was used in the study. The gathered data was treated using the following statistical tools: percentage distribution, mean, t-test for independent means, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Duncan's Multiple Range Test. Based on the results, 1) Most of the respondents came from the age group of 20-39, attained high school education, unemployed, has no family history of breast cancer, married, and with a monthly family income of 40,000 and below; 2) the women included in the study have low knowledge on breast cancer risks and high knowledge on breast cancer symptoms. Overall, the respondents have a high knowledge on breast cancer risks and symptoms; 3) There is a significant difference on the respondents' knowledge on the risks of breast cancer when grouped according to educational attainment; 4) There is a significant difference on the respondents' knowledge on the symptoms of breast cancer when grouped according to age; 5) There is a significant difference on the knowledge of the respondents on the risks and symptoms of breast cancer when grouped according to age.
