Abstract

This study determined the relationship between social support and level of academic engagement during the home-based alternative learning modalities among first- and secondyear radiologic technology students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute during the second semester of the academic year 2021-2022. This study used a descriptive correlational research design with demographic variables. Data were gathered using the adopted questionnaires “Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support” and “Academic Engagement Scale”. And it is treated using frequency, percentage, Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman’s correlation. The data gathering was done online through google forms in which the respondents were assured that their answers will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. The findings of the study show that most of the respondents were 17-19 years of age, female, and first-year students. The overall perceived social support received by the respondents from significant other, family, and friends is slightly high, and the level of academic engagement of the respondents’ behavioral and anxious engagement is at a moderate level, while cognitive engagement is at a high level during the home-based alternative learning modalities (HBALMs). The perceived social support and level of academic engagement of the respondents do not significantly differ in terms of their age, sex, and year level. There is a significant weak positive relationship between the perceived social support and behavioral engagement and a significant moderate positive relationship with cognitive engagement while anxious engagement has a weak negative relationship. Respondents who perceived higher social support are more engaged during HBALMs.
