Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the attitude towards family planning of selected couples in Brgy. San Juan 1, General Trias, Cavite. Specifically, the study answered the following questions: 1. What was the profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, religion, educational attainment, employment status, monthly income, number of children, spacing of children? 2. What was the attitude towards family planning of the respondents? 3. Are there any significant differences in the attitude towards family planning when the respondents were grouped according to age, gender, religion, educational attainment, employment status, monthly income, number of children, and spacing of children? This study used the descriptive method. The respondents were limited to selected couples of Barangay San Juan 1, General Trias, Cavite. The tool used was accomplished using an adapted modified questionnaire validated by experts from De La Salle Health Sciences Institute. Attitude towards family planning were determined according to its use effectiveness, family planning method used and reason for use and non use. This study found out the attitude towards family planning of selected couples. This was conducted in Barangay . San Juan I , General Trias, Cavite. Respondents included were the legal couples of reproductive age, 15-49 years old (United Nations, 2004). Females who have undergone hysterectomy were excluded from the study. Based from the findings gathered in this study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Most of the female respondents were in the age bracket of 25-34 years old and male respondents were 35-44 years old. Most respondents were catholic. On the other hand, most of respondents were high school graduate. Some of female respondents were unemployed and some of the male respondents were employed. With regards to monthly family income most of the respondents were employed. With regards to monthly family income most of the respondents have income below 10,000. Some of the respondents have two to three number of children and most of the respondents practice child spacing.. 2, Most of the respondents practice family planning method. Most of the respondents believes that natural family planning method were effective. Most of the respondents practice withdrawal among the natural family planning method and some of the respondents practice Tubal Ligation among the permanent family planning method. On the reason why respondents does not use different family planning method because it has caused bad effects. With regards to the reasons why respondents use different family planning method, majority of both female and male respondents use family planning method to limit the number of children. 3. Significant differences were posted on vasectomy for both respondents, reason of not using family planning because it is against the religion for the female respondents and reason of using family planning method to protecting the mother and child's health and to avoid abortion for the male respondents when grouped according to age. 4. Significant differences were posted on basal body temperature and diaphragm and spermicidal chemical for the female respondents, condom, reason for using family planning to have proper child spacing for the male respondents when grouped according to educational attainment. 5. Significant references were posted on oral pills both respondents, use of family planning, LAM, IUD, and reason of using family planning to ensure the needs of the family most importantly the children for the female respondents when grouped according to religion. 6. Significant differences were posted on reason of using family planning to limit the number of children and ensure the needs of family most importantly the children for both respondents, use of family planning method, effectiveness of artificial family planning, rhythm method, ovulation method, reason of not using family planning because family income is not enough and prefer not to use any. method, reason of using family planning method to have proper child spacing and limit the number of children for female respondents and avoid abortion for male respondents when grouped according to employment status.
