Abstract

This study sought to determine the attitudes and permissiveness towards premarital sex of selected teenagers of Barangay Amaya I, Tanza, Cavite during 2009. Specifically, the study answered the following questions: 1. What was the profile of the respondents in terms of age, religion, educational attainment and gender? 2. What were the attitudes of the respondents towards premarital sex? 3. What was the level of permissiveness of the respondents towards premarital sex? 4. Was there any significant difference in the attitudes of the respondents towards premarital sex when they are grouped according to age, religion, educational attainment and gender? 5. Was there any significant difference in the level of permissiveness of the respondents towards pre marital sex when they are grouped according to age, religion, educational attainment and gender? 6. Was there any significant correlation between attitudes and permissiveness towards premarital sex? This study which attempted to determine the attitudes and permissiveness towards premarital sex of selected teenagers (totaling to 300) of Barangay Amaya I, Tanza, Cavite. One limitation of this study is that the researchers had to confine themselves only to confine themselves only to the participants' responses as gathered from the researcher made tool, The Attitudes and Level of Permissiveness Scale in discussing the very broad facet of sexuality. Descriptive-Correlational type of research was utilized. For data gathering, the self-made 35-item questionnaire answered by 300 teenagers of the said barangay were checked, handscored and analyzed. The statistical tools used were: frequency distribution, frequency percentage, Chi-square and Phi coefficient. In the light of the given findings, the following conclusions were drawn:: 1. The most number respondents were 13 years of age, female in gender, catholic in religion, and high school level. 2. The favorable attitudes and permissiveness of the respondents towards premarital sex may be an. indication of a bigger problem that should be discussed in a broad and normal manner to better educate the adolescents and guide them towards sexual decision making. 3. That in the attitudes and permissiveness towards premarital sex, results showed a significant difference in terms of gender, and no significant difference in terms of age, religion and educational attainment they have, it presents no effect on their attitudes and permissiveness reflect that if the respondent has a favorable attitude he/she will also be permissive towards premarital sex of teenagers.
