Abstract

The descriptive method was employed in this study. Stratified random sampling was used to select respondents aged 30 years old and above from the total population of 1,500 women residents of Brgy. Old Bulihan, Silang, Cavite. Data was obtained through a self-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, standard deviation and f-test. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the respondents were 30-40 years old, attained high school level, had monthly family income of P10,001-30,000, employed and married; 2) The respondents were generally moderately aware of mammography screening as a preventive measure against breast cancer. However, they were unaware on item 13 “Women are not to wear deodorant perfume or ointments under the arms or on the breasts on the day of examination.” This indicated that the respondents lacked awareness on certain details, especially in the preparation before a mammography examination; 3) There were significant differences in the level of awareness of women when they were grouped according to age, educational attainment, monthly family income, employment status and civil status.
