Abstract

The descriptive-correlational method was applied in this study. The respondents were 272 senior citizens living in Barangay San Jose Dasmarinas Cavite selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument consisted of two parts: the self-made questionnaire on the level of activities of daily living and the adapted questionnaire on quality of life from the study of Frances Prescilla Cuevas. Percentage, frequency, mean, t-test for independent samples, standard deviation and F-test were the statistical tools applied. The following conclusions were drawn: 1) Majority of the respondents were female, married, and high school graduate; 2) The overall evaluation of the activities of daily living of the respondents showed that they need assistance; 3) The quality of life of the respondents was high; 4) The female respondents were more independent or can do more daily activities compared to male respondents. The respondents had the same level of activities of daily living regardless of civil status. Respondents who were college graduates were more independent than the rest; 5) There were no significant differences in the quality of life when the respondents were grouped according to gender. Married respondents had the highest quality of life. Respondents who were college graduates had the highest quality of life and while high school graduates were observed to have lowest quality of life; 6) The more independent the respondents were in terms of activities of daily living, the higher the quality of life; 7) There was a high positive correlation between level of activities of daily living and quality of life.
