Abstract

The research study focused on determining the attitudes towards mammography and level of pain experienced by mammography where patients. Intervening variables included age, civil status educational attainment, monthly family income, family history of cancer, previous mammogram examination parity and type mammogram machine. This study employed the correlational design using relationship studies. The research was conducted in selected hospitals in Cavite and Makati using purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire was self-made and given to 105 mammography patients with age 18 and above. The researchers analyzed the data using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Kruskall Wallis test, Mann Whitney test, Spearman’s Rank Correlation. Results showed that most of the respondents were in adulthood stage, married, had reached college level, and belong to poverty level. Majority of them do not have family history of cancer, do have previous mammographic examination, had given birth and underwent fil-screen mammography. The respondents have highly positive attitude towards mammography. The respondents experienced mild level of pain during mammography. The attitude of the respondents towards mammography when grouped according to age, civil status, educational attainment, monthly family income, family history of cancer and previous mammographic examination do not vary. However, the level of pain experienced by the respondents when grouped according to parity and type of mammogram machine varies. There is an inverse relationship between attitude towards mammography and level of pain experienced by mammography patients.
