Abstract

This research study utilized the correlational research design to determine the relationship between awareness, attitude and preventive practices of men regarding prostate cancer aged 40 years old and above. It was conducted in selected barangays of Dasmariñas City, Cavite. A total of 430 respondents participated in the study using purposive sampling technique. This study used a questionnaire. Data was analyzed using percentage, chi-square, frequency distribution, t-test for independent mean, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Slovin’s formula, and mean. The results of the study revealed that most of the respondents are 40-50 years old, attained high school level, were married, with a monthly family income of Php 10,000 and below. Majority of them has no family history of cancer. Respondents have poor awareness towards prostate cancer but they have a positive attitude towards prostate cancer. The preventive practices to prevent prostate cancer were sometimes practiced by the respondents. The awareness of prostate cancer does not vary when the respondents are grouped according to civil status and family history of cancer but it varies with regards to age, educational attainment and monthly family income. Those who belong to 80 and above, have post graduate degree and have a monthly family income of Php 250,000 and above and above have better awareness than other groups. Attitude regarding prostate cancer does not vary when they are grouped according to age, civil status and family history of cancer but it varies when they are grouped according to educational attainment and monthly family income. Preventive practices regarding prostate cancer does not vary when they grouped according to age, civil status and family history of cancer however it varies whey are grouped according to educational attainment and monthly family income. Those who have post graduate degree and have monthly income of Php 250,000 have better preventive practices than other groups. The awareness and attitude towards prostate cancer are significantly related. As the awareness increases, the attitude towards prostate cancer becomes more positive. The awareness and preventive practices are significantly related. As the awareness increases, the preventive practices increases.
