Abstract
The demographic variables included were year level, gender, type of student, residency and parenting style. This study utilized a descriptive type of research. Using purposive sampling technique, a total of 498 respondents participated in the study. The researchers used a self-made academic stress scale questionnaire patterned from the study of Mr. R. Balaji Rao to find out the level of academic stress of the respondents. The data was analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent group, one-way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) the profile showed that most of the radiologic technology students of De La Salle Health Sciences Institute were third year students, female, regular students, home-based and have an authoritative parent; 2) the level of academic stress of the respondents who participated in the study were moderately stressed. There were no items rated as extremely stressed while items pertaining to examinations, heavy workloads, too many demands of the professors and lack of concentration during study hours were rated as highly stressed; 3) there were no significant differences in the level of academic stress of the respondents when grouped according to gender, type of student and residency. However, there were significant differences in the level of academic stress of the respondents when grouped according to year level and parenting style. According to the result of Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT) for the year level, first year has significantly higher level of academic stress than second year and third year but second year and third year were not significantly different from each other. In terms of parenting style, authoritative has higher level of academic stress than authoritarian, while authoritarian is not significantly different with permissive, and authoritative is not significantly different with permissive.
