Abstract

The study utilized a descriptive quantitative design using a 60-item questionnaire which included 20 questions for clinician, 12 questions for educator and administrator, seven (7) questions for researcher, three (3) questions for advocate and six (6) questions for a community-based therapist. The questionnaire, which is answerable by a five-point Likert scale to determine the extent of the Clinical Internship Program, was given to 114 respondents who are under the Department of Physical Therapy, College of Rehabilitation Sciences-De La Salle Health Sciences Institute. Respondents were determined using total enumeration sampling. The study measured the extent of the Clinical Internship Program as to being a clinician, educator, administrator, researcher, advocate, and community-based therapist. The study also described the respondents as to their demographic profile, which consists of age, gender, clinical education and experience and preferred career paths. Statistical techniques used were frequency distribution and mean. Results showed that the extent of the Clinical Internship Program given to the respondents in terms of being a clinician, educator, administrator, researcher, advocate, and community-based therapist was great and interpreted the extent of a Clinical Internship Program as remarkable. Most of the respondents chose clinician as their number one (1) career, followed by educator, community-based therapist, administrator, advocate, and lastly researcher. In conclusion, the Clinical Internship Program provided in the clinical education among the respondents was great and that the extent of the Clinical Internship Program was remarkable. There should be a continuous monitoring of the satellite, affiliation centers, community-oriented rehabilitation program and academic rotation in providing Clinical Internship Program in training the students towards the six (6) career paths.
