Abstract

Telerehabilitation services emerged before the COVID-19 pandemic, but only gained further attention during its time. Currently, it is utilized at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. However, since its inception, there are limited studies on what improvements could be made in its process. In this study, the researchers aimed to explore the experiences of caregivers of patients in the pediatric physical therapy telerehabilitation of DLSMHSI by delving deep into their experiences before, during, and after their telerehabilitation sessions. The findings of the study shall determine the areas needing improvement, making the experiences of the caregivers a basis for service delivery improvement. Moreover, a qualitative narrative study design was employed, wherein a validated semi-structured interview guide was utilized by a moderator to extract information from three caregivers who participated in four or more telerehabilitation sessions. From this, four themes common among the participants discussed the issues experienced, influential patient factors, demands of telerehabilitation, and positive

experiences in the process. The narratives revealed that telerehabilitation has certain areas in need of improvement. In conclusion, despite the efficacy of telerehabilitation in DLSMHSI, issues with caregiver preparation, intern’s instruction delivery, and clinical rotations commonly arise which significantly impacts caregivers’ experiences during telerehabilitation. Caregivers' availability, their multiple roles, financial status, physical handling, and HEP scheduling also play a major role in their personal experiences. Improvements on the areas mentioned can be made which could enhance the experience of caregivers and patients in the future. Overall, the results of this study may be used as a basis in enhancing the current system of telerehabilitation to provide an improved and excellent service delivery to those in need.
