Abstract
This study was conducted to find out what recommendations for best practices and limitations in PT Rehabilitation Practice for COVID-19 patients comorbid with CVD can be given applicable to Philippine setting. Using a mixed method triangulation design, this study collected both quantitative data, using an electronic survey instrument, and qualitative data, through open-ended questions and interview. The respondents were 43 Physical Therapists from the US, and 7 respondents from the Philippines, with experience in handling adult and geriatric patients with COVID-19 comorbid with CVD in the acute and subacute setting. The electronic survey was rigorously disseminated online to recruit respondents and one-on-one interviews were conducted with select eligible respondents who also opted to be interviewed. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and rank while the qualitative data was transcribed and analyzed through coding, thematic analysis, and key point analysis; findings from both were used to determine the practices of PTs for the said patient population in terms of acute and subacute care settings, adult and geriatric populations, different parts of the client management process, and different stages of patient handling. Encompassing the strengths, weaknesses, best practices, and limitations determined in rehabilitating patients with COVID-19 comorbid with CVD, the recommendations for Philippine setting focus on integrating evidence and continuing education to develop clinical reasoning, empowering interdisciplinary collaboration, providing better administrative support to PTs, promoting staff safety and adherence to protocols, and enforcing holistic individualized rehabilitation.
