Abstract

This study aimed to identify the five most common problems about learning and working relationship between clinical supervisors and DLSU-Aguinaldo Physical Therapy interns SY 1992-1993. The study conducted in five randomly selected affiliation centers of the DLSU-Aguinaldo College of Physical Therapy. Included the Philippine Orthopedic Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Jose P. Rizal Memorial Hospital, De La Salle University Medical Center, and San Juan de Dios Hospital. 38 therapists and 69 DLSU-Aguinaldo Physical Therapist interns qualified for the study. A questionnaire used to obtain the data for the study. The data tallied, organized according to frequency, percentage and analyzed descriptively. To identify the potential problem areas in learning and working relationship, during a clinical internship in physical therapy, based on the ideal characteristics and basic responsibilities for both learner and teacher. Results showed the five most common problem areas identified by the physical therapist and interns. (1) Easily gets nervous in the presence of staff. (2) Lack of resourcefulness (lack of ability to meet new situations). (3) Easily gets confused about the task performed. (4) Displays childhood behavior. (5) Sensitive (easily get affected or emotionally hurt if criticized). The five most common problems seen by DLSU-Aguinaldo PT interns among Physical Therapy staff. (1) Imposes strict supervision. (2) It does not discuss comprehensively interesting cases in the clinic. (3) It does not provide optimum opportunities for practice. (4) IT does not recognize individual differences. (5) It does not give recognition to the good works of a student.
