Abstract
The main objective of this study were to determine how PT interns of DLSUMC and JPRMF rehabiliation unit provide CVA patients with home exercise instructions and to confirm the claim of the PT interns regarding the techniques of giving home exercise instructions through patients. This descriptive study used questionnaires in obtaining data which were tallied and presented in tables. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 50 respondents chosen through simple quota sampling. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. The data obtained showed that DLSU-A PT interns primarily provided CVA patients with verbal home exercise instructions during the first treatment and emphasis was given on shoulder flexion, shoulder abduction and hip flexion. contents of the ideal home exercise instruction were provided by the PT interns to the CVA patients wherein various techniques were used. However, some of the aspects in the techniques and contents of giving home exercise instruction were not confirmed by CVA patients. It is recommended that an actual observation of the PT interns who give home exercise instruction be conducted. Such study should determine the long term retention of the home program. Also, like other studies, we also recommend that formal structured home program be given to the patients with demonstration and a written instruction at the termination of the treatment.
