Abstract

The study was conducted at Immaculate Conception Academy (ICA) Ibayo Campus ,Dasmarinas, Cavite. Sixty eight percent (68%) of the total population were available at the time of the study. This descriptive study aimed to identify the 3 most common musculoskeletal complaints among teachers of ICA . Data were obtained through questionnaire given to the teachers. Results of the study showed that back , legs and shoulders problem were the three most common musculoskeletal complaints of teachers in ICA. The study also showed that the three most common symptoms occurring in teachers in ICA were "pangangalay", pain. and fatigue on certain body parts. However, still majority of the teachers reported that their jobs were not affected by these musculoskeletal complaints. Based on the above results the authors recommend that a seminar on how to avoid those musculoskeletal complaints should be given at ICA- Ibayo Camus, likewise, educational pamphlets and handouts about proper body mechanics should also be given to the teachers. Teachers should also be encouraged to seek medical advise from Rehabilitation Medicine professionals to be evaluated and be given ample treatment as well as home instructions. It is also highly recommended that further studies be done to broaden its scope and to investigate the nature and predisposing factors of each of the above complaints. This will facilitate the development of an appropriate preventive care program. Such research should include a greater number of respondents from different school. More importantly, sample should be equally distributed among males and females to correlate sex with the type and location of musculoskeletal complaints.
