Abstract
This study aimed to determine the most common disability found in the vicinity of Brgy. Salitran I, Dasmariñas, Cavite as of January 1999. One hundred eight households with a total number of one hundred fifty eight family members were survey using the interview schedule. This comprised 30% of the total household population of the areas. Results of the study showed that more than half of the study population had a disability 92% of individuals with disabilities has multiple impairments. The most common form of disability seen was with self care and reaching activities, followed by transfers, ambulation, coordination and comprehension disabilities. Disabilities were most common among female with ages of more than 50 yrs. old classified as in the late adulthood. Majority of disabilities were seen under neurological conditions particularly those suffering from stroke or cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Transfers, however was seen to be the most common disability with stroke /CVA. the authors recommend that the Community Oriented Rehabilitation Program establish a primary health care program in Barangay salitran I, Dasmariñas, Cavite that will provide then with their rehabilitation needs.
