Abstract
The survey in Philippines Orthopedic Center and Tahanang Walang Hagdan was conducted to determine the psychosocial reactions of adults patients with unilateral above and below knee amputation. A questionnaire was used to obtain data out of 20 amputees. This study used the descriptive type of research design to determine the psychosocial reactions of amputees. Majority of the subjects came from the 34-40 age group with an equal number of males and females. All of the subjects claimed that they received both family and spiritual support. 35% experienced social claimed isolation immediately after amputation while 75% of the subjects had low self-esteem. The reasons behind such psychosocial reaction is due to difficulty in acceptance and physical insecurities (100%). 45% of the subjects considered locomotion as the major concern as to Activities of Daily Living. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommend that the rehabilitation term members should not only deal with the physical deficiencies but also on the psychosocial aspect which could affect rehabilitation. Family education should be given importance. We also recommend further study on the coping mechanism or adaptation of adults amputees.
