Abstract

The study aims to determine the prevalence of flatfoot deformity among the kindergarten and grades 1-3 pupils of Binakayan elementary School. It involves the physical examination of feet of the kindergarten and grades 1-3 pupils of BEs where in only 5 out of 10 sections of grades 1-3 were selected with two available sections for kindergarten and 15 pupils were selected from an average of 45 pupils per section. all these selections were done through quota non-probability sampling. A total of 17 sections with 255 participants were involved. Although different studies showed different prevalence of flatfoot, this descriptive study showed that there is an increase of flatfoot at Binakayan Elementary School which has 58 out of 255 random sampling and that the non-flexible flatfoot and grade 2 degree were the most common type and degree of flatfoot. The study also showed that the common starting age for early shoe used was 1 yr. old with soft type of shoe commonly worn. Only 5 sought consultation due to complaints of pain of pain and 2 of these were corrective shoes. as to sociodemographic profile, 8 yrs old was the most common age of pupils who have flatfoot. And with the researchers had accomplished, they were still aware that there is more to be done about their study. They, therefore, recommend amore detailed research on determining the most common degree of flatfoot using Denise Classification and other predisposing factors like lack of nutrition. And for the sake of the continuity of this study that all positive subjects to be further monitored for future problems rooted from flatfoot and how does this conditions came about. Lastly, the researchers recommend that the results of the study be further relayed to the principal, school doctor, community health officials and the parents of the subjects concerned for them its progression, and to correct the deformity if possible.
