Abstract
Measurement of trunk mobility is an essential part of physical examination particularly in the impairment of the spine. Because limitation of spine motion has been shown to correlate with the presence of low back disability, accurate measurement of spinal motion is becoming increasingly important. In interviews with physiatrist and physical therapist in different affiliation centers where the author have rotated, it was observed that during physical examination of Filipino patients without impairment of the spine, Schober's test value of Schober's test among natural born Filipinos residing at Burol, Dasmariñas , Cavite ages 15-20, 21-25, 26-30 years old. The researchers established a criteria and 300 out of 500 natural born male and female Filipinos were qualified for our study. After having their consent, the subjects were interviewed , it is followed by the actual assessment using non-elastic tape measure measuring the three points of reference, S2, 5 cm below and 10 cm above S2. The subject was instructed to bend forward and reach the floor as far as he can. It was dome three times and the average of the three trails was the value of the Schober's test for that subject, data were then analyzed. By using z-test, we have obtained Schober's test values for Filipino individuals aged 15-20, 21-25, 26-30 and are less compared to the standard value of Schober's test with 95% confidence level (15-20 y/o; mean, 4.2265: SD, 1.0631; 21-25 y/o; mean, 4.5365: SD, 1.0258; 26-30 y/o; mean, 4.1646: SD, 1.0307). The average value of Schober's test among Filipinos residing at Burol, Dasmariñas, Cavite fall below five cm, which is less than the normal value of Schober's test with the value of equal of greater than five cm.
