Abstract

Compliance with the prescribed frequency of the treatment schedule is essential in the success of the PT program. However , it was observed that in Jose P. Rizal National Memorial Foundation Institute, most of the outpatients do not follow the prescribed PT schedule. Thus, this prompted the researchers to conducted to conduct a study on the Most Common Factor to the Poor Compliance of Outpatients of JPRNMFI from January 3 to June 30, 2000. This aims to identify the frequency of inactive patients of JPRNMFI, to describe the characteristics of patients with poor compliance to PT, PT sessions as t6o sex, medical condition and to identify the most common factor that contributes to the poor compliance of respondents to the Pt PT sessions. The descriptive type of research design was utilized in this study and was conducted at JPRNMFI. Out of 94 inactive patients , 62 met the inclusion criteria and all 62 patients were included in the study or 100% of the population. Data were gathered through questionnaire. The result of the study showed that problem in payment of Professional? PT fees ranked the 1st complication about 30.98%. then was followed by the Residence being far from the P.T Clinic with 16.3%. The study also showed that difficulty of transportation going to the PT clinic, No available companion, No time for PT, Family's unfavorable attitude towards PT treatment, Perception of PT is not beneficial, Perception that there is no need for PT and Unsatisfied with services rendered did not turn out to be major problems. The study also showed that respondents are mostly between 46-55 years of ages (14 out of 61 of 23%) followed by those between ages 55-65 of age (13 out of 61 or 21%) and mostly males (52.46%). The study also showed that patients mostly have orthopedic or musculoskeletal conditions (57.38%) and neurologic illnesses (42.62%). the authors therefore concluded that the most common factor affecting the JPRNMFI outpatients complaisance to their PT treatment is Problem in Payment of Professional/ PT. fees. Recommendations. The authors recommend that the staff of the PT rehab in JPRNMFI should make and strengthen the home program and be able to come up with an alternative program for patients who were less fortunate to afford the PT fees in PT clinic so that in the event that a patients fails to com for a therapy session, a home program would be a good alternative. The authors recommend that further studies are to be made regarding the different factors affecting the patients compliance to the PT treatment sessions involving a larger number of study population to further identify other specific reason. It is also recommended that a study on nearby satellite center (St. Dominic Medical Center and Address Bonifacio Medical Hospital) in order to minimize the effect of the economic factors with regard to patients compliance to their scheduled PT treatment session for some patient may not afford the respective PT fees of said satellite clinics.
