Abstract

This research study was done top present the prevalence of shoulder pain among wheelchair users inside Tahanang Walang Hagdanan. The study showed the demographic data of the subjects based on their sex, age, handedness, occupation, reason of begin a wheelchair users and the number of years of wheelchair use. It also tried to answer the onset and laterality of shoulder pain as well as the probable causes related to shoulder pain. A letter of permission was presented to the management of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan summoning the researcher to study. As approved, the researchers prepared the questionnaire for the population of wheelchair users. Among 108 wheelchair users inside Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, only 31 subjects were included in the study that were able to meet the criteria set by the researchers. Questionnaires were given to gather data. The collected questionnaires were analyzed and interpreted through frequency distribution and measures of central tendency showing graphs and tables for simplification and organization of the data gathered. In view of the findings gathered, the researchers were able to arrive at a conclusion that there was a high prevalence of shoulder pain among wheelchair users inside Tahanang Walang Hagdanang. It was also conducted that shoulder pain affects a certain age group, gender and occupation. Duration of wheelchair use showed a relationship to the occurrence of shoulder pain. after the study, we were able to present the prevalence of shoulder pain among wheelchair users. The researchers would like to recommend a further clinical research regarding shoulder pain on other sites other than Tahanang Walang Hagdanan and develop other strategic ideas in preventing or decreasing the prevalence of shoulder pain in this population through proper assessment and ADL training for these individuals. This study would also like to impart to everybody condition and know their needs and potentials for function in order to arrive at a better rehabilitation intervention.
