Abstract
This study determined the perception of caregivers regarding the characteristic abilities of a redefined pediatric wheelchair using eight domain characteristic: functionality, durability, affordability, comfort, originality, creativity, practicality, and bio- engineering characteristics and its commandability level using a 5 point Likert type scale ranges from "Very Highly Commendable" to "Not Very Commendable". Background and Purpose: A redefined pediatric wheelchair has not yet been fabricated by the institution. The purpose of the study is to innovate a pediatric wheelchair regarding its functionality, durability, affordability, comfort, originality, creativity, practicality and bio-engineering characteristic which will be commended by caregivers. Methods: The is study both descriptive and innovative in design. Innovative because the researchers redefined a pediatric wheelchair and tested it to actual patients. A total of 31 caregivers coming from Hospicio de San Jose and Chosen Children Institute participated in the main phase of the study. Out of 31 caregivers, 5 are parent, 2 are guardian/relative, 20 are health care provider and 4 are nanny. In this, study a perception questionnaire was given to the respondents. It consists of 13 questions, distributed in 8 domains namely: functionality, durability, affordability, comfort, originality, creativity practicality, and meeting of the bio-engineering requirements which are all the aspired characteristic abilities of the radefined wheelchair. Caregiver's rating were measured using 5-point likert type scale that ranges from "very highly commendable" to "not very commendable". Results: The result ofthe study showed that the majority of the caregivers graded the redefined pediatric wheelchair as 4 or Highly Commendable which means it is convincing to use and has very slight improvement needed. Conclusion: The researchers conclude that the caregivers perceived the redefined padiatric wheelchair as Highly Commendable based on eight domain characteristics: functionality, durability, affordability, comfort, originality, creativity, practicality and bio-engineering requirement.
