Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the sitting posture using Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) among elementary pupils aged 10-12 years old at Lancaan Learning Center. Specifically, the sitting postures of the pupils during their schools activities such as writing, reading, and listening were analyzed. Moreover, the study also aimed to identify the corresponding action level of the sitting posture of the pupils. This study utilized a descriptive type of research design. A RULA assessment form was validated and administered to a total of 30 elementary pupils who were randomly selected from the school's master list of students. Results of the study showed that out of 30 respondents, more than half (17) of the elementary pupils are male, 12 years of age and majority (28) of whom were right handed. The elementary pupils assumed a fairly bad sitting posture in writing and reading but they assumed a fairly good sitting posture in listening. Furthermore, results of the study also showed that 14 pupils must be subjected for further investigation of their posture, 13 needs investigation and changes are required soon and only three subjects need investigation and changes are required immediately. In conclusion, the sitting posture of the elementary pupils assessed by the researches using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment is fairly bad based on the computed mean score of 2.7. This type of posture would possibly lead to adverse effects on the body which can later on develop to a musculoskeletal disorder. The researchers therefore recommend that seminars about correct posture must be given to the elementary pupils of Lancaan Learning Schools and that future studies must be done about the factors related to the developments of poor posture with great emphasis on ergonomic considerations
