Abstract

This study is all about the leisure participation of stroke survivors among selected rehabilitation centers in Cavite. The study aims to determine the different leisure participation of a stroke survivor. The leisure participation was determined as to the age, gender and hemispheric lesion of the respondents. Also the study included the different barriers that hinder a stroke survivor to participate at any leisure activities. A descriptive type of study was used and the researchers did a purposive sampling in selecting the respondents. The following criteria for the inclusion and exclusion of the respondents are; the respondents should be presently undergoing rehabilitation, stroke patient for 1 year, no severe aphasia and impairment and is residing in Cavite. The researchers used the Nottingham leisure Questionnaire(long version) to determine the leisure participation of stroke survivors at selected rehabilitation centers in Cavite namely De La Salle University Medical Center(DLSUMC) St. Paul Hospital, Estrella Hospital and Bautista Hospital. Results showed that watching TV, A passive leisure activity, is the most common leisure activity done by stroke survivors. Male survivors and left stroke survivors with left hemispheric lesion have greater participation towards their leisure activities. In conclusion, stroke survivors in Cavite are engaging in a more passive leisure activities which are watching TV, Listening to Music, just sitting, day dreaming and reading newspapers/magazines. These passive leisure activities are very regularly done by stroke survivors in Cavite.
