Out of 207 physical therapy proper students, a total of 50% that is equivalent to 106 students participated in the study. The respondets were given a questionnaire to obtain data and the results were tallied, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. Results showed that majority of the students used social networking sites 7x a week. The majority used social networking sites 7x a week. The majority also used social networking sites 0-14 hours a day and mainly for updates and chat rather than for academic purposes. Majority of third year PT proper students (35) have a passing mark or positive effect while more fourth year PT proper students (37) however, have a failing mark or negative effect on their academic performance. Overall, more PT proper students (58) have a passing mark or a positive effect on thier academic performance. Proper students (58) have a passing mark or positive effect on their academic performance with the use of social networking sites. Results of the study also showed that duration of usage of SNS has an effect on the grades of the students. Many students who passed were those who used social networking sites for lesser hours a week. In contrast with the frequency, this showed no effect on the academic performance of the students as the results varied with equal number of students getting a passing remark with use of once a week, more students with passing remark with use of 2x, 3x, 5x and 7x a week, and more students getting a failing mark with use of 4x and 6x a week. For the purpose of unsafe, more students get passing remarks regardless of the purpose. In conclusion, the academic performance of the Physical Therapy Proper Students is not affected by their usage of the social networking sites. There were more student who got passing remarks despite the frequency, duration and purpose of usage of social networking sites. the researchers then recommend that the students must be aware of how much time they spend on these sites and that they must make a conscious effort to manage their time. In addition, a follow-up study on the factors influencing the use of social networking sites must be investigated in the future.
