Abstract
Caffeine is considered as a natural stimulant that can boost alertness and energy level of a person. However, signs of toxicity such as irritability, nervousness, restlessness, rapid heart rate, vomiting, and tremors are present at specific dose of caffeine. With this, the researchers determined the correlation of the dependency on caffeinated beverages with the level of anxiety and stress among pharmacy students. Two questionnaires were modified and utilized, the Caffeine Expectancy Questionnaire (CaffEQ) and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), to determine the caffeine dependency and the levels of anxiety and stress among pharmacy students of DLSMHSI-DMQCP. Data was collected from 180 participants in different year levels, 62 first-year students, 45 second-year students, 36 third-year students, and 37 fourthyear students. The results showed that there is no significant difference in the level of caffeine dependency on caffeinated beverages, level of anxiety, and level of stress over the past week when grouped according to year levels. Moreover, the data indicates that caffeine dependency is positively correlated with anxiety and stress. This specifies that the higher the level of caffeine dependency, the higher the anxiety and stress levels will be and vice versa.
