Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the gathered experiences and preferences of parents of children with ASD on occupational therapy services delivered during the pandemic. This case study utilized a non-probability sampling, where the researchers screened five participants. These were the parents of children with ASD. The data gathering was held through interviews via Zoom and each researcher was assigned to interview and record the session which lasted about 10 - 15 minutes. The language used was both Filipino and English. The six-step thematic analysis method by Braun and Clarke and cross-case analysis were followed by the researchers to code and analyze the data from the interview transcripts. The participants were eligible for the criteria for the study provided most of the participants were female rather than male. Most participants reside in Quezon City with a nearby therapy center. The range of years availing OT services was between one to nine years. Two themes were identified for experiences that involved both challenges and advantages while main themes for preferences are preferred mode of service delivery and recommendations. All five cases prefer in-center therapy as a mode of delivery which they perceive to be more effective since interventions performed in the clinics were considered unique to the client. Additionally, most parents who had in-center and online therapy during the pandemic preferred the direct and interactive nature of in-center sessions.
