Abstract

The study aims to determine if the 4th year College of Rehabilitation Sciences students are able to apply their knowledge and skills learned through online learning in their clinical internship. This qualitative research used purposive sampling to be able to gather fifteen (15) respondents, specifically five (5) interns each from the three (3) different departments in the College of Rehabilitation Sciences of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute through an online focus group discussion interview. The data were classified according to themes that reflect the objectives of the study observing the method approach done by Creswell (2009). Based on the interpreted

data, it was found that there were facilitators and barriers affecting the online learning experience of the students observed across the departments. The most notable outcome in the different experiences of online learning to the transition of clinical internship by the students were how the Speech and Language Pathology respondents were able to effectively adapt more to the changes to online learning as they were able to observe proper communication, as the anchor of their course, despite the change of medium in delivering therapeutic services. As for the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy students, they were only able to assess and validate their learnings when they had more hands-on skills and training during the clinical internship. With that said, the students from the different departments of the college had different strategies to process their knowledge into skills that can influence their clinical competency.
