Abstract
The researchers conducted a study entitled "Evaluative Study on the Accessibility of Public Markets for Wheelchair Users in Dasmarinas City" which aims to determine the compliance of public markets in Dasmarinas City to the requirements stipulated in the Accessibility Law. This study was pursued to help identify and address the difficulties, risks and deprivation brought by physical inaccessibility, which was hypothesized to be experienced by wheelchair users in going to public markets. A quantitative descriptive type of research was employed with the study set in Dasmarinas City. Three public markets were evaluated, which included Dasmarinas Central Public Market, DC Mart and Luzviminda II Wet and Dry Public Market. A checklist that was derived from the Accessibility Law was used for the gathering pertinent accessibility data. It was validated by five respected professionals under the department of College of Rehabilitation Sciences. After securing the approval of the respective Barangays, the researchers implemented a 2-week evaluation on the target population. The result of the study showed that Dasmarinas Central Public Market, has an accessibility rate of 9/45 (20.01%), DC Mart showed a compliance of 12/39 (30.76%). Lastly, Luzviminda II Wet and Dry Public Market whowed a compliance of 6/44 (13.63%). In conclusion, among the public markets in Dasmarinas City, DC Mart had the highest compliance followed by Dasmarinas Central Public Market then Luzviminda II Wet and Dry Public Market.
