Abstract
This study used a descriptive qualitative type of research design since it generally aims to determine the employment opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities who underwent OT an intervention in Dasmarinas City, Cavite. The researchers conducted a survey and interview. The total population of persons with intellectual disabilities ages between 20-40 years old is 164. The researchers were able to target 46 respondents. Purposive sampling method was utilized in the study. Data was analyzed by using frequency and ratio. The analysis reveals that four (4) respondents were employed. Regarding the employers, out of 74 barangays in Dasmarinas City, Cavite, 24 barangays were selected using the fish bowl technique. Out of the 24 barangays, 104 employers were randomly surveyed. However, only 70 employers were successfully surveyed. Seventeen (17) of them are willing to accommodate the said individuals. It was then noted that from the 17 employers surveyed, there are 36 available jobs offered to persons with intellectual disabilities. With that, the ratio of post OT intervened persons with intellectual disabilities to the number of employment opportunities was determined. Results showed that the ratio is 1:2. After a thorough study, the researchers therefore conclude that the employment opportunity for persons with intellectual disabilities is low. Continued research is necessary to identify best practices.
