Abstract
Specifically it aimed the following: 1. To determine the effectivity of sigang-dagat in the treatment of scabies in terms of cure and duration of treatment. 2. To determine the effectivity of commercial drug in the treatment of scabies in terms of cure and duration of treatment. 3. To determine if there is any significant difference in the effectivity of sigang-dagat and commercial drug in terms of cure and duration of treatment. 4. To determine the cost benefit of using sigang-dagat as compared to commercial drug in the treatment of scabies. This was an experimental study focused on the effectivity of sigang-dagat as compared with commercial drug in the treatment of scabies. The 30 subjects who have met the inclusion criteria were divided into the two treatment groups, the data gathered were analyzed using the mean, percentage and t-test. Results revealed that out of 15 subjects treated with commercial drug there is an 87-100% potency to treat scabies as compared with 15 subjects treated with sigang-dagat, there is only a 73-100% potency to treat scabies during the one-week period. Results also revealed that sigang-dagat (P35.00) in the ointment preparation but if decocted or poultice prepared then the former could be effective. Based on the findings, the researchers concluded that there is no significant differences in the effectively of sigang-dagat and commercial drug in the treatment of scabies among conveniently selected subjects in terms of cure and duration of treatment.
