Abstract
This study used the descriptive survey method of investigation through questionnaires. Descriptive in the sense that it attempted to find out & describe the primipara mothers child rearing practices to their children ages 0-1 ear old at Salitran, Dasmarinas, Cavite. The respondents of this study were 50 primipara mothers from Salitran, Dasmarinas, Cavite who had children of 0-1 year old. They were gathered from the records of primipara mothers from ear ’95-’96 at the barangay health center of Salitran, Dasmarinas, Cavite. The respondents were selected by means of purposive sampling. They were given sets of questionnaires to be answered. A number of fifty respondents of primipara mothers from Salitran, Dasmarinas, Cavite was obtained. The information used in developing the questionnaire were gathered from primipara mothers. The questionnaires were written in Tagalog and were distributed to the respondents. They were divided in to two parts. The first part was about the demographic data such as age, education attainment, family income and culture. The second part was about the level of information on child rearing practices and health beliefs of the primipara mothers. The statistical test that were used to answer the specific problem were mean, frequency distribution, t-test, and correlation analysis. Based on the major findings, the respondents were 16-38 years old, most of them had reached the College level, with the family income of P3,500-P10,000 and they belong to Tagalog culture. The mothers believed more on the scientific basis in their child rearing. There was a significant difference with the scientific health beliefs of the respondents in terms of culture. The mothers were into scientific practices with regard to child rearing. There was a significant difference with the scientific health practices in terms of educational attainment. There was a significant difference with the superstitious practices in terms of family income and culture. There was a relationship between health beliefs and practices with regard to child rearing.
