Abstract
The descriptive research design was applied in this study. 105 primary caregivers of elderly in Paliparan, Dasmariñas, Cavite were chosen randomly as the source of data. Personal information sheet and an adopted-modified Tagalog version of the Burden Interview questionnaire were used as research instruments. The statistical treatments used were Percentage, Mean, t-test of Uncorrelated Means, and F-test or one-way ANOVA. The following major findings were drawn: 1.) The respondents’ profile shows that of the 105 respondents, 89% were female, 48% belonged to the 36 to 59 age group, 55% were sons or daughters of the elderly, 75% were married, 50% were high school graduates, 80% cared for the elderly for more than a year, 26% are caring for elderly who suffer from cardiovascular diseases, and 38% of them are caring for elderly aged 60-69 years old; 2.) Primary caregivers have mild level of burden in taking care of the elderly in the home setting in Paliparan, Dasmariñas, Cavite with an overall mean of 1.01; 3.) There is significant difference in the level of burden of the primary caregiver in the care of the elderly in the home setting in Paliparan, Dasmariñas, Cavite when they were grouped according to age, gender, civil status, relationship to the elderly, educational attainment, health problem of the elderly, and age of the elderly; 4.) There is no significant difference in the level of burden of the primary caregiver in the care of the elderly in the home setting in Paliparan, Dasmariñas, Cavite when the were grouped according to length of giving care.
