Abstract

This particular study aim to determine the common cultural beliefs and practices of the respondents regarding maternal and child care at selected rural areas in cavite. SPECIFIC a.)To determine the profile of the respondents in terms of age, educational attainment, family income, place of birth, years of residency, religious affiliation and source of medical care. b.)To determine the level of cultural beliefs regarding maternal and child care of the respondents from silang, indang and amadeo cavite during pregnancy, labor and delivery, after delivery and newborn care. c.)to determine the extent of practice of cultural beliefs of the respondents regarding maternal and child care from silang, indang, and amadeo cavite during pregnancy, labor and delivery, after delivery and newborn care. d.)to know if there are significant differences on the level of cultural beliefs regarding maternal and child care when the respondents are grouped according to age, educational attainment, family income, place of birth, years of residency, religious affiliation and source of medical care. e.)To know if there are significant differences on the extent of practice of cultural beliefs regarding maternal and child care when the respondents are grouped according to age, educational attainment, family income, place of birth, years of residency, religious affiliation and source of medical care. f.)To know if there is a significant relationship between the cultural beliefs and practices of the respondents regarding maternal and child care during pregnancy, labor and delivery, after delivery and newborn care. This study was conducted at three selected rural areas in cavite (silang, indang and amadeo) wherein, a total of 150 respondents answered the questionnaire on cultural beliefs and practices regarding maternal and child care during pregnancy, labor and delivery, after delivery and newborn care. The respondents were mothers with two or more children who are residents of the said area.Among the 150 respondents, majority of them belongs to ages of 36-40 years old and above (39%), have attained high school or secondary level of education (49%), have a monthly income of below 10,000 pesos (82%), most of the respondents were born in cavite (59%), have above 2 years of residency (97%) in silang, indang, and amadeo, belongs to catholic religion (93%), and prefer to seek medical care in health center (52%).
