Abstract

PURPOSE STATEMENT: This study aimed to focus on the lived experiences of childless healthcare professionals. This purpose was accomplished through the use of phenomenological type of qualitative research. This research attempted to answer the question, "What are your lived experiences as a childless health care professionals?" ("Anu-ano ang iyong mga karanasan bilang isang health care professional na walang anak?") SCOPE AND DELIMITATION: This study focused on the experiences of childless female healthcare professionals. The participants: (1) were childless female healthcare professionals living in Cavite, regardless of age and reason of being childless (2) had no adopted child/children, (3) personally wanted to have child (based from preliminary interview), and (4) were willing to talk about the phenomenon and give detailed information on their experiences were not intended to be generalized rather it maintained the uniqueness of each participant's experience. MAJOR FINDINGS: After the data were analyzed, 8 themes with sub-themes were identified regarding the lived experiences of childless female healthcare professionals. These themes were: 1) "Avarice of the Heart", 2) "Melancholic Cry", 3) "A Glassful Half full", 4) "Tip of the Iceberg" with sub themes of, 4.1) "Society's Hard Sell", 4.2) "Albatross Around the Neck", 4.3) "Green-eyed Monster", and 4.4) "Fears", 5) "Window Dressing", 6) "Four-squared Behind" with sub themes of, 6.1) "Friends" and 6.2) "Till Death Do Us Part", 7) "An Undying Spirit", and lastly, 8)"Avowed Intent".
