Abstract

This study used a quantitative non-experimental descriptive research design. The population involved in the study were the female fourth year high school students of Vel Maris School Inc. and Dasmarinas West National High School. A total of 150 respodents were taken as respondents of the study. Seventy-five (75) female high school students from Vel Maris School Inc. and 75 respondents from Dasmarinas West National High School. The respondents were chosen through purposive sampling. The researchers used a self-made questionnaire to determine the level of awareness of fourth year female high school students on the effects of dieting. The effects of dieting were based on the physical, psychological and social effects of dieting. The tool was validated and pretested. To answer the specific problems and to test the hypothesis of the study, the frequency distribution, percentage, mean, F-ratio or ANOVA and t-test were utilized. The following conclusions were based on the findings of this study: 1) From the 150 respondents, majority were 14-15 years old, Catholic, and had a monthly family income of Php10,000 and below; 2) The level of awareness of the respondents regarding the effects of dieting showed that the female fourth year high school students were aware to a moderate extent on the physical, psychological and social effects of dieting; 3) There was a significant difference on the level of awareness regarding effects of dieting when the respondents were grouped according to type of school and monthly family income whereas, there was no significant difference on the level of awareness regarding the effects of dieting when the respondents were grouped according to age and religion
