Abstract

The study used a non-experimental research design. There were one hundred respondents who were patients confined at De La Salle University Medical Center. The researchers used a 15-item questionnaire adapted and modified from the research instrument of Baligod, Tibayan, Certeza (2006) related to male student nurse-patient interaction. Purposive sampling was used for selecting a sample. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the respondents are 15-39 years old, male, have been confined at the hospital for 1-5 days, have a monthly income of Php10,000 and below, attained college level, mostly confined in 1400 ward and have two relatives at bedside; 2) The level of NPI established by male student nurses batch 2009 is very good; 3) There is a significant difference in the level of NPI established by batch 2009 male student nurses when the respondents are grouped according to age, gender, length of hospitalization, area of confinement and number of relatives at bedside. However, there is no significant difference in the level of NPI established by batch 2009 male student nurses when the respondents are grouped according to monthly family income and educational attainment.
