Abstract

This study utilized a descriptive design under quantitative design. Respondents of the study were composed of 35 primi mothers from Silang, Cavite, classified as upland Cavite, 35 primi mothers from Imus, Cavite, classified under lowland Cavite, and 35 primi mothers from Bacoor, Cavite, classified as coastal Cavite. A total of 105 primi mothers served as respondents of the study and was determined using purposive sampling or judgmental sampling, in which the researchers handpicked the respondents. Self-made questionnaire was used for data gathering. The statistical treatments used were mean, frequency, t-test and f-test. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the respondents were in the age group of 18 to 26 years old, Catholic, have a nuclear family type, earning Php10,000 and below per month, have attained high school level and married; 2) The cord care practices of primi mothers in Cavite, arranged from the most frequently practiced to the least practiced, were wiping the cord with alcohol covering with a cloth bandage, washing the cord with soap and water, wiping with povidone-iodine (Betadine), washing with water, exposing the cord to the air, putting talc powder, covering it with gauze, putting baby oil, covering it with diaper, putting breastmilk, putting coin, putting crushed penicillin tablet, putting pottery ashes, and allowing the cord to fall off on its own. The overall cord care practice interpretation is poor; 3) There were no significant differences when they are grouped according to age, family type, monthly family income, and geographical location. On the contrary, there were significant differences in terms of religion, educational attainment and civil status
