Abstract
The study utilized the non-experimental descriptive research design. There were 100 respondents, aged 13 to 59 years old, who have undergone amputation and/or are currently rehabilitating in Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center Quezon City, De La Salle University Medical Center Dasmarinas City, Cavite, East Avenue Medical Center Quezon City and Tahanang Walang Hagdanan Cainta, Rizal and were chosen convenience sampling. The following research instruments were used for the data gathering: information sheet for determining the profile of the clients and Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale for determining the level of self-esteem of clients who have undergone amputation. The main statistical tools that were used in this study were percentage, mean, f-test/ANOVA and t-test. The study came up with the following conclusions: 1)Most of the respondents were 31 to 40 years old, male, Catholics, employed, preferred outdoor activities, had lower limb amputation, were amputated because on infection, with a monthly family income of P20,001 to P30,000, have secondary level of education and have their families as the source of social support; 2) The level of self-esteem of the clients who have undergone amputation in selected hospitals and rehabilitation centers is very high; 3) There was no significant difference in the level of self-esteem of the respondents when they are grouped according to gender, religious affiliation, employment status, preferential hobbies, type of amputation, reason for amputation and educational attainment. However, there was a significant difference in the level of self-esteem of the respondents when grouped according to age, socio-economic status and social support.
