Abstract
This study utilized descriptive type of research. The respondents were 50 postpartum women with low birth weight or pre-term infants performing kangaroo mother care selected through simple random sampling. The researchers used a self-made questionnaire to gather data. Frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, f-test and Pearson’s r were used in the statistical analysis. The study concluded that, 1) Majority of the respondents belongs to 16-25 years of age group, undergraduate, came from Luzon, non-working and with family income of P10 000 and below belonging to Class D; 2) Most of the respondents had an excellent knowledge regarding the idea of kangaroo mother care (KMC) because they had been given instructions and basic knowledge on the concept of performing the said method prior to performing it; 3) Most of the respondents had a very good attitude in performing the KMC because they had been given basic knowledge about KMC, its purpose and advantages both to the mother and their newborn; 4) The level of knowledge of the respondents towards KMC was not significantly different in terms of age, educational background, place of origin and maternal occupation because the respondents were given the same instructions and basic knowledge about the concept of KMC; 5) The level of attitude of respondents towards KMC was not significantly different in terms of age, educational background, place of origin and maternal occupation because the respondents were satisfied to the daily development of their child; 6) There is strong linear relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude of the respondents regarding the practice of KMC. As the level of knowledge increases, they learn the benefits, which results to the increase in their willingness to perform KMC.
