Abstract
This study used qualitative research design. Purposive or judgmental sampling technique was employed to select 11 physically handicapped individuals, who had physical deformity involving both lower extremities that made them unable to walk. All of them used to live in Tahanang Walang Hagdanan in Cainta, Rizal. At the time of the study, five (5) were already living outside the said institution. Interviews with tape recorder was used in data gathering. Colaizzi’s phenomenological methodology was utilized in the analysis of interview. The study concluded that living in the world of physical disabilities is like passing through a bridge over troubled water, where physically challenged individuals take all the risks that come their way. It was quite difficult for an individual to immediately accept the reality of having a dysfunctional body part. However, they were able to accept the situation gradually. They also experienced hardships that challenged their courage and determination to continue their lives. With the help of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, they finally realized that they are still unique individuals who can do special activities that others cannot through the miracle of God’s power.
