Abstract
This study was primarily undertaken to determine the perception of patients at risk of cardiovascular diseases regarding teleconsultation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is a non-experimental, quantitative design particularly descriptive-analytical approach, to determine the perception of patients at risk of cardiovascular diseases regarding teleconsultation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study utilized a researcher-made type of questionnaire to obtain the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, educational attainment, civil status, and teleconsultation service availed and the perception of the respondents as patients at risk of cardiovascular diseases regarding teleconsultation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The instrument had been validated by experts, members of the panel, and the ethics committee of the College of Nursing of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. Majority of the 164 respondents belong to a) age range of 40-49 years old (27.4%); b) male population (51.2%); c) college graduates (51.2%); d) married population (45.7%); and e) utilize video teleconsultation service (43.9%). The respondents’ perception regarding teleconsultation during COVID-19 pandemic is high as indicated by an overall mean of 3.10 with a standard deviation of 0.63. The indicator “Teleconsultation saves me time traveling to a hospital or specialist clinic” was assessed with the highest weighted mean, 3.44 (High). On the other hand, the indicator “I can easily talk to the clinician or health provider using the teleconsultation system” was assessed with the lowest weighted mean of 2.53, but still considered as “High”. The ANOVA test results showed that there is no significant difference in the perception regarding teleconsultation during the Covid-19 pandemic when grouped according to age (F=1.272; p=.283), sex (F=0.360; p=.689), educational attainment (F=1.212; p=.303). However, results showed significant difference when grouped according to civil status (F=3.614; p=.015) and to teleconsultation service availed (F=8.368; p=< .001). The typical respondent of this study is a male patient at risk of cardiovascular diseases, who is in his early middle age, has a college degree and is already married. Moreover, he prefers video teleconsultation service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The patients at risk of cardiovascular diseases had high perception of the teleconsultation system during the COVID-19 pandemic. They believed that teleconsultation was very useful and convenient for them during the pandemic. Their perception of the teleconsultation system depends on the type of teleconsultation service they receive. When compared to respondents who prefer phone and chat service, those who utilize the video teleconsultation service had a higher perception with the teleconsultation platform during the COVID-19 pandemic. The respondents’ age, sex, and educational attainment make no difference in their perception regarding teleconsultation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
