Abstract
Objectives The study aimed to determine the (1) extent of implementation of the interprofessional education program in the 1st semester of the A.Y. 2023-2024, (2) the perceived readiness of the allied health students of DLSMHSI for interprofessional collaboration, and (3) the relationship of the implementation of the interprofessional education program at DLSMHSI to the perceived readiness of health allied students for interprofessional collaboration.
Methodology The researchers utilized a descriptive cross-sectional method. A self-made tool for the survey questionnaire was formulated by the researchers. The respondents of this study were 274 students from five (5) colleges of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute: College of Nursing, College of Nuclear Medicine Technology, College of Pharmacy, College of Medical Laboratory Science, and College of Physical Therapy, and were selected using stratified random sampling and snowball sampling.
Findings The findings of this study were the following: 1. The extent of implementation of the Interprofessional Education Program in DLSMHSI was categorized into three domains: knowledge, skills, and attitude. The attitude domain got the highest mean, followed by knowledge, and skills, with mean values of 3.50, 3.48, and 3.224 respectively. 2. The perceived readiness of healthcare undergraduates for interprofessional education in DLSMHSI was categorized into three domains: knowledge, skills, and attitude. Results showed the highest mean in skills, followed by knowledge, and attitude, with mean values of 3.43, 3.42, and 3.384 respectively. 3. There is an existing significant positive relationship between the extent of the implementation of the Interprofessional Education Program in DLSMHSI and the perceived readiness of healthcare undergraduates for interprofessional collaboration as indicated by p-value of less than 0.001 denoting significance at the 0.01 level.
Conclusions Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: The Interprofessional Education Program at DLSMHSI has been highly implemented, with some room for improvement. The respondents are highly ready for interprofessional collaboration. Undertaking the IPE program is positively correlated with undergraduates in healthcare with increased readiness for interprofessional collaboration. Overall, the program has the potential to enhance students’ readiness for effective interprofessional collaboration.
