Abstract

Objectives of the Study: General: This study was primarily undertaken to determine the lifestyle profile of second year nursing students of De La Salle Medical Health Sciences Institute and create a health promotion plan.

Specific: Specifically, this study sought to find the following: 1. The profile of the respondents in terms of sex, BMI, living arrangement, medical condition. 2. The lifestyle profile of 2nd year nursing students of DLSMHSI in terms of their physical activity, nutrition, health responsibility, spiritual growth, interpersonal relations, and stress management. 3. If there is a significant difference in the lifestyle profile of 2nd year nursing students when they are grouped according to sex, BMI, living arrangement, and medical condition. 4. The proposed Health Promotion Plan

Methodology: The study used a quantitative, descriptive-analytical design to explore the lifestyle profiles of second-year nursing students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. Using systematic random sampling, 167 respondents were selected. The criteria for participation were being a second-year nursing student at DLSMHSI and consenting to participate. The sample size was determined using the Raosoft Calculator. An adapted "Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II" (HPLP II) questionnaire was employed, covering demographic data (e.g., sex, height, weight, BMI, living arrangement, medical condition) and 52 items on health-promoting behaviors rated on a Likert scale. The HPLP II, known for its validity, required no further validation. Ethical considerations included obtaining ethical approval, securing informed consent electronically, ensuring voluntary participation, and maintaining strict data confidentiality. Various statistical methods were used for data analysis: The Frequency Distribution Assessed demographic data and identified statistical significance. The Percentage represented the prevalence of different lifestyle behaviors. The Mean and Standard Deviation Calculated average scores and measured variability. The T-test Compare means between two groups and the One-way ANOVA Evaluated differences across multiple groups.

Conclusions: From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. The study shows a positive trend towards moderate to good health behavior among second year nursing students at De La Salle Medical Health and Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI). Majority of the students were female and the respondents’ distribution across BMI categories shows the various levels of weight control among students, resulting in a healthy weight range, living with family and majority of the respondents have no known medical conditions. 2. The respondents' lifestyles such as physical activity, nutrition, health responsibility, spiritual growth, interpersonal relations, and stress management was evaluated by the majority in between moderate to good. 3. There is no significant difference in the comparison of lifestyle profiles of second year nursing students when they are grouped according to sex, BMI, living arrangement, and medical condition. 4. The identified Health Promotion Plan proposes the following steps: Define the concept of a healthy lifestyle, emphasized the importance of regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, health responsibility, develop deeper understanding of spiritual growth, encourage interpersonal relationship, stress management and other health promoting behaviors that will promote overall well-being, in order to adopt specific interventions that focus on a particular area where support is most required.
