Abstract

This study utilized a descriptive research design. Convenience and snowball sampling were employed among women aged 40 to 60 years old. The total female population within age 40-60 in Brgy. Buna Lejos, Indang, Cavite is 698. Using Cochran's formula for finite population of 95% confidence level, 50% proportion of the population, and 5% margin of error - the sample size of this study was 248. The study utilized the Menopause Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire to obtain the needed data. Data was analyzed through frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Chi-square. The study concluded that, 1) The majority of the respondents were married and have two children, aged 46 to 50 years old. Also, most of them are college graduates, employed, have a monthly incomes ranging from P23,381 to P46,671 and have no history of oral contraceptive pill intake and history of smoking, 2) The prevalence and severity of the menopausal symptoms were assessed per domain and yielded the following results: 2.1. In the vasomotor domain, the most prevalent symptom was hot flushes while the least prevalent symptom recorded was nigh sweats. Hot flush was also the most severe symptom noted, 2.2. In the psychosocial domain, the most prevalent symptom was experiencing poor memory while the least symptom was being dissatisfied with personal life. Experiencing poor memory was also the most severe symptom in the psychosocial domain., 2.3. In the physical domain, the top three most prevalent symptoms recorded were feeling tired or worn out, low back ache, and aching in muscles and joints. On the other hand, the least prevalent symptom was increased facial hair. In terms of severity, the leading severe symptom was also feeling tired or worn out, 2.4. In the sexua domain, the most prevalent symptom reported was avoiding intimacy while the least prevalent symptom was vaginal dryness during intercourse. Avoiding intimacy was also the most severe symptom, 3) The perceived effect of menopausal symptoms in terms of physical domain revealed a poor quality of life. Majority of the respondents appeared to have a good quality of life in the vasomotor, psychosocial, and sexual domains. In terms of overall quality of life, majority of respondents reported have a good quality of life, 4) In the overall aspect, significant differences exist when the perceived effects of menopausal symptoms to the quality of life of the respondents in the four domains were grouped according to parity, civil status, monthly family income, and history of QCP intake.
