Abstract
This study used qualitative descriptive design using purposive and snowball sampling. The researchers conducted virtual interviews with the participants which were recorded and transcribed. Data was analyzed through Colaizzi's method. The results of the study led to the conclusion that ICU nurses' experience on patient loss in the ICU circles around their professional responsibility, the personal ramifications on the situation, and the importance of a healthcare team. Nurses are subjected to overwhelming emotions like doubt, trauma, grief, and sadness due to the close bond built, trauma, grief, and sadness due to the close bond built with their patients and having seen personal and up close the process of dying. Communication with the family, job satisfaction, personal dilemmas, and being new to the job were some of the challenges face by the participants. The participants knowledge that the ICU is a demanding area that could take a toll on their well-being. Lastly, the participants are left with personal learnings and realizations after their experience with patient loss where they are emphasize that death is a normal part of the life cycle and how providing all out care is the utmost priority when dealing with patients in the ICU.
