Abstract

The study was primarily undertaken to determine the cultural differences on home management of acute respiratory tract infection (ARTI) among children 1-5 years old in barangays in Imus, Cavite. This study utilized the descriptive non-experimental type of research. The study utilized the convenience sampling method in selecting the respondents. The respondents of this study included all mothers of reproductive age which are 15-49 years old, with children of 1-5 years of age, coming from the various ethnoliguistic groups in selected barangays in Imus, Cavite. The researchers used a two part, 40-item adapted-modified questionnaire as the main instrument for gathering the necessary data for presenting problem. The researchers came up with the following conclusions: 1) majority of the respondents are 36-39 years old, married, with high school education, majority of them are Catholics, unemployed and have a monthly family income of Php10,000 and below, and they are equally distributed to the different ethno lingusitic groups; 2) the cultural difference regarding the home management of ARTI in children 1-5 years old have the same level of usage of "sometime done" for Pangasinense, Kampampangan, Cebuano, Ilokano, Tagalog, Ilonggo and Davaoeno except for Bicolano with the level of usage of "seldom done" ; 3) There is no significant difference in the home management of ARTI of children 1-5 years old by the respondents whey they grouuped according to age, civil status, educational attainment, religion, employment status, monthly income and ethnic background.
